BENTE Union Update (7-26-21)--Negotiations, BENTE Office Relocation
July 26, 2021

Please take note of the following updates:

NEGOTIATIONS: We have reached a tentative agreement with the District for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement! The agreement is tentative until it is ratified by the membership, so please come out to vote on Monday, August 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Franklin High School Auditorium. Details on the agreement are in the attached letter, which will be mailed to everyone’s home address. The agreement will also need to be voted on by the Board of Education.

If you have any questions regarding the new agreement, please e-mail me at dan@bentelocal2419.org. I will also be available all day during the ratification meeting at Franklin High School.

Please contact the union office at 458-8670 if you have recently moved so we can update your address. We mail all of the notices according to the address we receive from the seniority list provided by the District.

BENTE UNION OFFICE: The lease for the BENTE Union office is expiring on July 31 and upon notice that the rent would be increasing, we have decided to relocate. We experienced a large drop in membership due to the layoffs, which will take some time to recoup as members are recalled. A number of new hires will be needed to fill in excess of 150 vacancies within our bargaining unit and given the shortage of workers, it could take a number of months to do so.

AFSCME NY Council 66 is looking to purchase a headquarters within the next year or two that would house Council 66 staff, BENTE Local 2419, and AFSCME Local 1635, which represents workers for the City of Rochester. Until such time, we will be relocating the BENTE office temporarily to 3545 Buffalo Rd, Suite 9, where our rent and utilities will be cut in half.

We will utilize this savings in an effort to host some events that can resume as long as COVID-19 remains on the decline. Getting members back together at sponsored events is very high on our priority list and we miss sharing time with all of you outside of the workplace.

The last year has been a difficult one for so many of you who were affected by layoffs due to the shutdown, or personal loss as a result of COVID-19.

Let’s hope for better times ahead.

In Solidarity,

Dan DiClemente, President
