BENTE/AFSCME Local 2419 is the support staff that supports students, representing over 1200 dedicated support staff workers throughout the Rochester City School District in the State of New York. Our membership is comprised of eleven units: Attendance, Central Office, Custodial, Elementary Clerical, Food Services, Occupational and Physical Therapists, Plant Maintenance, Secondary Schools, Security, Storehouse, and Transportation.
BENTE stands for the Board of Education Non-teaching Employees, and our union represents hard working men and women that provide the basic necessities of life for your children: cleanliness, security, food, safety, supplies, transportation, and support.
We are consistently working on behalf of our membership to negotiate better contracts that ensure decent health care, equitable raises, and fair treatment in the workplace. Our members are the backbone of the Rochester City School District, and the services that they perform are necessary for schools to operate efficiently.

Consists of various support staff in departments such as Special Education an Related Services, Student Placement, Information, Management and Technology, Employee Benefits, Payroll, Communications, Accounting, Budget, Research Development & Testing, Early Childhood Education, Student Records, Professional Learning, Facilities, etc.
Consists of Custodial Engineers, Assistant Custodians, Custodial Assistants, and Cleaners responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of RCSD schools and facilities.
Clerical support in the Main Offices of Elementary Schools.
Consists of Truck Drivers, Cafeteria Managers, Cook Managers, Cooks, Porters, and Food Service Helpers at Central Kitchen and throughout the schools.
Plumbers and HVAC Mechanics, Carpenters, Glaziers, Locksmiths, Electricians, Preventative Maintenance, Grounds, and Painters.
Clerical support in the Main Offices, Library, and House Offices, as well as Accompanists, AV Assistants, and Stock Clerks.
School Sentries/School Safety Officers, Security Patrol Officers and Guards provide security and support to ensure a safe learning environment for staff, parents and students throughout the district.
Stock Handlers, Stock Clerks and Truck Drivers provide books and supplies to the schools.
Troubleshooters, Bus Drivers and Bus Attendants see to it that your children are transported safely back and forth to school. Bus Mechanics perform necessary maintenance and repairs to buses and other district vehicles.
The primary focus of Occupational and Physical Therapists in school-based practice is to maximize a student’s functioning in their activities through the use meaningful, goal-oriented treatment.
Assist children by making home visits, informing them of programs available, and ensuring parental involvement.
