BENTE Union Update (3-29-23) -- General Updates
March 29, 2023

BENTE UNION MEMBERS, please take note of the following updates:

SAFETY & SECURITY: You can access the results of our Safety and Security survey by clicking on the following link: BENTE Union Safety & Security Survey Results.  The comment section can be accessed by clicking on the following: BENTE MEMBER SAFETY AND SECURITY COMMENTS. We will utilize the data to illustrate to the District the severity of the problem and that solutions are needed for staff to feel safe in the workplace.

A meeting took place this past Monday between the leaders of each union in the school district, the superintendent, the mayor, and the police chief to discuss the ongoing violence in the city we presented our data, impressing upon the District to come up with a comprehensive plan to address the concerns of our members with regard to safety in the workplace.

CIVIL SERVICE: The BENTE Union, Council 66, and our AFSCME representatives in Albany are actively advocating and working with Governor Hochul for reforms to Civil Service given the extreme difficulty in filling vacancies.

Some of these reforms include: the elimination of examination fees, eliminating requirements to live in the county, expanding the “rule of three”, and other reforms that would relax requirements in an effort to make filling vacancies much easier.

2023-2024 RCSD CALENDAR: The 2023-2024 RCSD School Calendar has been finalized. Special thanks to Secondary Clerical Unit Chairperson Jill Harold for serving as the BENTE representative on the RCSD Calendar Committee.  You can access next year’s school calendar by clicking on 2023-24 RCSD Calendar
