PROJECTED LAYOFFS: Yesterday, I sent an email to the Board of Education to explain our position on Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small's recommendation to lay off 221 BENTE members, mostly in the areas of food services and school security. These numbers are staggering. Attached is a resolution that was passed unanimously by the BENTE/AFSCME Local 2419 Executive Board.
We are asking ALL BENTE members to do their part and e-mail the Board of Education in support of the resolution and against any layoffs to support staff. Dear Commissioner:
Please be advised that I am in full support of the resolution passed by the BENTE/AFSCME Executive Board called “Fighting For Economic Justice.” These cuts to support staff will be devastating to the workers who have students and families living in the City of Rochester. Please vote “no” to any layoffs and support our efforts to provide more services to the community during this difficult health crisis.
We would really appreciate everyone’s support with sending e-mails to the Board Members. It is important that we show how united we are against any effort to diminish the hard-working men and women in BENTE.
