DiClemente Says the District is Misportraying Budget
March 25, 2014

"I have looked through the budget and have no doubt that the majority of the cuts to support staff will be layoffs; not attrition and not vacancies like the District is falsely reporting," President DiClemente said. "We are looking at thirty to forty people on the street as it stands right now." The brunt of these layoffs will be to clerical staff, DiClemente says, 26 in all (mostly lower level clerks)... and the clerical staff has already experienced reductions over the past few years. "These are filled positions and there is no doubt that this will result in people losing their jobs. We are extremely concerned over the fact that services to the public - at a time when the superintendent is stressing an increase in the level of customer service - will be further diminished. The clerks keep the District in compliance, handle transportation issues, maintain student records and attendance, answer phones, interact with parents, staff, and students, and perform a variety of other tasks too numerous to mention. We want to make certain that this story is being accurately portrayed. In this budget, as it currently exists, there will be layoffs. And it is disingenuous to those individuals whose lives will be affected for the District to say otherwise."
